Come on a tour of the exhibit Mapping Meaning: Adventures in Cartography with the collector, Dr. Ernst Tonsing. This tour will specifically focus on the artifacts in the exhibit, including a ceremonial shield, a pine coffer, and dowry or “hope” chests. Get a special look at the interior of these rare, well-preserved chests as the collector unlocks them and explains the significance of the designs. Why is the lock shaped in that way? Why is this chest listed as 1817 when the front clearly states 1840? What is rosemåling? Come on the tour to find out! This is a standing tour of approximately 45 minutes, but there are cushioned seats in the gallery that visitors are welcome to use. Free and open to the public.
