Peter Frank is a curator, art critic and editor who has organized shows for institutions througout the world. The most notable among them was “19 Artists-Emergent Americans” the 1981 Exxon National Exhibition mounted at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City. Frank has taught at many colleges and lectured throughout North America and Europe. He is currently associate editor of Fabrik magazine and art critic for the Huffington Post.
Mikael Oganes is a fiery pianist and virtuoso music transcriber who has won prizes at international competitions and praise for his original arrangements of symphonic works for solo piano. Oganes is currently touring throughout North America and the Middle east. He is involved in a host of projects aimed at bringing classical music to wider audiences by incorporating percussion and electronics, and is completing his debut recording with violinist Victor de Almeida.
Curator and art critic Peter Frank will discuss the exhibition “Resonating Images: 1900-1950″ and why the art works included are important today. 2-3 pm
Tea and cake intermission 3-3:10 pm
Pianist Mikael Oganes will play modern variations of masterpieces from the early 20th century including 3 Preludes and songs by Gershwin, and Rite of Spring (Part 1) by Stravinsky. 3:10-4:10 pm
Peter and Mikael will be available to meet and greet at the concluding reception. 4:10-5 pm
Please note that the Tea and Talk with Peter Frank, originally scheduled in November, was moved because of the conflict with the first NCAA football playoff game hosted on the Cal Lutheran campus. As a result, we are able to bring you this exciting combined program.
