On View: February 5 – March 7, 2016
An animalier is an artist of any media who specializes in creating realistic images of animals, particularly in the 19th-century. The Rolland Gallery alcove currently features four such sculptural examples of animals in action by French and American artists dating from the 19th-century until today. From hunting scenes to idyllic single animal compositions, these works are fluid despite the permanence of the material they are made from. All featured works are in the permanent collection of the William Rolland Gallery of Fine Art. On view through May 18, 2016.
