In situ is a Latin phrase that means on site, or in its original place. In this exhibit, we reimagine the William Rolland Collection through the lens of placing its objects in space and time outside of the gallery. Paintings from the collection are juxtaposed with images of the places, people, and objects they represent in their cultural moment in time. Reproductions and reductions of sculptures from the collection are shown side-by-side with the current locations or contexts of the originals they were created after. Some of the origins include a mosque in Iran, a cemetery in France, a market place in the Netherlands, an ancient Roman garden, and the shores of Lake Michigan in Chicago. Come gain greater visual and historical depth to some of the collection’s iconic pieces.

The paintings and sculptures in this exhibition were generously donated to California Lutheran University’s art collection by William Rolland.
